Meditation for Postnatal Depression
Postnatal depression is more than just a lack of sleep, but is a complex mix of natural hormonal, emotional and physiological factors. Studies show that meditation is effective at balancing mood, normalising hormone production, improving blood flow around the body, and clearing negative mental fog.

The problem
Postnatal depression tends to strike in the first few months after childbirth, and can affect both new and experienced mothers.
We are becoming increasingly aware men can also develop depression after their partner gives birth.
In women, postnatal depression is caused by a variety of factors, including (but not exclusive to) extreme hormone fluctuations, previous experiences of mental ill health, birth trauma and sleep deprivation.
For men, witnessing their partner give birth (especially if things don’t go to plan) can cause huge anxiety, and if they lack support the demands of parenting can become very destabilising.
The impact can be truly debilitating and in some cases may develop into long-term depression. Help is often needed, and fast.

How it affects you
Postnatal depression is well-known for affecting the relationship parents have with their children, and it can stop us accessing joy at a time which is meant to be defined by happiness.
This can lead to feelings of guilt and failure, pushing us further into the negative spiral of depression.
Our relationship with our partner can suffer, making it difficult to form a united team against the challenges we face.

How can Beeja help?
Beeja meditation helps with all aspects of depression, and can be used in isolation or as part of a wider strategy, combining well with traditional treatments.
When we use meditation for postnatal depression, the incredibly deep rest gained through meditation helps us to work off some of the fatigue and helps us cope much more effectively with disrupted sleep cycles.
Tuning into our mind and body’s natural creative intelligence also allows our production of hormones to rebalance so that we find ourselves much more on an even keel.
With meditation, the chronically over-activated autonomic nervous system is now much more in balance and takes us away from the threshold of negativity.
From the point of view of adaptability and self-esteem, we find our inner resources and self-perception become greatly elevated by a practice that really gives strength and empowers us to realise that we have something incredibly valuable and lovable inside.
By accessing it each day, we can draw on these resources and start delivering the best of ourselves, even when circumstances are challenging.

Reviews
“ Soon after practising for the first time I felt lighter, happier, full of purpose, full of life. Life is a bumpy ride, overwhelming most of the times, but with the meditation you are strong enough to go through.”
“As a Dad and the owner of a young business, the approach had to be realistic if it was going to work. If you can’t tell by now, I HIGHLY recommend that you come and learn from Will."

“Meditation was literally a life saver for me, post-partum; it allowed me to calm down when I was feeling sad, frustrated and lonely. By going into that calm place and reconnecting with myself I started to feel at peace, loving and very connected to my babies.”
