It puts you at much greater risk of developing heart disease, stroke and other conditions which affect your blood vessels. The problem
Metabolic syndrome can not only cause heart disease, but also reduce physical and cognitive functioning.
There are lots of factors which play a part in causing this condition; from inactivity, to eating too much, drinking too much, smoking and a genetic predisposition.
Because of the general nature of the problem, most treatments, therapies and medications have limited impact.

Unlike most conditions that are characterised by one particular metric being off-kilter, this recently recognised condition is defined by a situation of allostatic load (meaning wear and tear of the body) being reached.
When this happens, you’re at risk of major disease unless restorative action is taken. The good news is… unlike other conditions, this one is reversible.
