Meditation for Creativity
Stress is the antithesis of artistic creativity, which often requires a sense of freedom for the mind to explore and play. Meditation can cultivate a more serene mental outlook and free the mind for higher creative thinking - allowing us to make fresh connections and reach new realisations.

The problem
Not everyone thinks of themselves as a creative person. But, even if we’ve never written a poem or painted a picture in our lives, all of us need to be creative in finding different ways of doing things as both we and the world around us evolve.
Some of us find it easier to be creative than others, but trying to maintain consistent creative flow is incredibly challenging for anybody.

How it affects you
The chronic stimulation of our everyday world does not help our creative side. The more noise there is within our nervous system, the more fragmented our ideas become.
It’s also more difficult when we don’t feel completely in touch with who we are, which is a common trait when we’re busy chasing our tails, racing to meet the demands of modern life.
It’s also the same for artists and creatives who are under pressure to meet deadlines, or under strain to meet all of their financial commitments.
The essential parts of the creative brain begin shutting down, and we start to lose touch with our true self – that place within us which is beyond ego and is merely a pure, expressive essence.
Conceptual thinking is also much easier when we are in possession of a relaxed nervous system...

How can Beeja help?
Beeja meditation helps to deeply relax our mind, body and nervous systems. Our brains release alpha waves and from here we can access our creative flow.
When we experience alpha functioning - as we sometimes do when we are relaxed or within nature – our mind synchronises into highly coherent patterns of slow wave alpha and sometimes even high-level theta functioning. This is when we can feel that sensation of ‘flow.’
Beeja meditation can help that powerful state of alpha functioning to spread across the entire surface of our brain, creating a ‘peak performance’ or ‘eureka’ moment, where great ideas simply pop into your awareness, during a huge wave of inspirational flow.
Studies into Beeja have shown that brainwave patterns starts going into this state every time we meditate, and this gradually becomes our naturally functioning state, turning us into consistently awesome creatives.
At the same time our prefrontal cortex, which is home to so much of our creative thinking, also becomes much more activated and starts to grow thicker. This makes it easier for us to access the creative field, and for longer.
A truly lovely part of the process is the ideas you have may well have greater resonance and significance with others; as you connect to something deeper and more universal within us all.
At the same time, there is a freedom of expression beyond the constraints of our conditioned and conventional minds. We are aware of the forces that are shaping our world, but we are not subject to them or limited by them. If anything, we wish to articulate them in meaningful ways.
What results is a greater fluency, greater flexibility, and greater originality of creative thought.
And if we have to present our ideas to others, we find ourselves free of the grip of anxiety when we meditate on a regular basis. We are secure within ourselves and our work, and able to communicate our ideas more effectively.

“...what imagination is, is taking those things you have in your memory and putting them together in a new way. So just in the way that the hippocampus allows us to think about the past and memory, it also allows us to imagine the future. Long-term stress is literally killing the cells in your hippocampus that contribute to the deterioration of your memory. But it’s also zapping your creativity.”
